Spotify Introduces 320kbs

Spotify looks set to improve the quality of its service for premium members according to Music Ally today with the announcement of news that premium member will soon have the option to chose between the usual 160kbs or the new and improved 320kbs format to give more incentive for users to upgrade to the full paid subscription service.

Obviously this will take some time to be implemented completely there are talks that this will begin to be introduced later this week firstly with bigger artists as they undertake the huge task of converting the whole catalogue. Although there are still no official updates posted on the Spotify website regarding this.

This should add some extra attraction to the already great Spotify service but is it enough to convert much needed subscribers to the premium accounts?

For the music purists yes this would be a definite persuader to join the ever growing service and upgrade for the added quality, but to the average user I can’t see this having much effect.

Overall though I am a huge fan of the Spotify service and do believe it is the way forward for the changing music industry as a whole, they need to adapt to new technologies faster and realize where and when the consumers want their music. Many believe that these new Spotify models will fail like many have already due to the lack of interest and backing and no hope for any advertising revenue. However with Spotify being built extremely well and being simply a pleasure to use with its playlists and instant playback I think we have finally found a winner in this gap.

Update 25/06/2009: Spotify have now officially announced the improved service on their blog view here
